Foundational Trainings: Externship and Core Skills

EFT Externship - the first step in becoming an EFT Therapist

The four-day EFT Externship, taught by ICEEFT certified trainers, is an introduction to EFT theory and technique. It is a prerequisite for taking Core Skills and many Master Classes as well as for certification. The externship is made up of lectures, group discussions, role plays, videos and live session consultations. Participants will learn and practice all aspects of the model, including:

  • The basics of attachment theory

  • The steps and stages of the model and most common EFT interventions

  • How to access, assemble, and deepen core attachment emotions

  • How to practice the five core moves of the EFT “Tango” technique

  • Work with therapeutic impasses

Core Skills - Advanced Training in EFT

Core Skills 1 & 2 - March 20-22, 2025

Core Skills 3 & 4 - October 2-4, 2025

Bentley University Conference Center, Waltham, MA

For therapists who have completed the 4 Day Externship, Core Skills is designed to give you a "deeper dive" into each stage, step, and intervention that make up an "Emotionally Focused" approach. Participants reflect that this is where the model really takes hold and they are able to incorporate EFT into their practices with more confidence and skill. Core Skills is split up 2 3-day trainings - Core Skills 1&2 the first weekend, Core Skills 3&4 the second weekend.  It is required for certification. Limited to 23 participants, Core Skills participants are encouraged show a clip of their EFT therapy with couples during the second weekend..
