Welcome to EFT Massachusetts

A Community of Emotionally Focused Therapists in Massachusetts and Surrounding Areas

 Our Mission

We are a warm, welcoming community of EFT Therapists in Massachusetts and surrounding areas.  We provide support, connection and encouragement as well as learning opportunities to all levels of EFT Therapists as we all endeavor to skillfully practice Emotionally Focused Therapy.

We also aim to be a resource for therapists new to EFT to become trained in the model, for therapists already trained in EFT as they study and grow their skills, and for individuals, couples and families in distress to quickly find an EFT therapist.

What is EFT?

Promoting a better world through a foundation of loving, resilient relationships - one relationship at a time.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Dr. Sue Johnson is a cross-culturally proven, research-based model of relational therapy for couples, individuals and families that centers safe and secure, close and connected as the goal for helping transform relationships.

Rooted in the science of attachment, EFT is a structured, experiential model. Therapists help clients identify, understand and interrupt negative patterns that have developed over time.  Through a series of well-defined stages, old patterns are transformed into secure and loving bonds that last.

Research shows that more than 70% of couples who try EFT move from distress to recovery, and about 90%  show significant improvement.

“Love has an immense ability to help heal the wounds that life sometimes deals to us. Love also enhances our sense of connection to the larger world. Loving responsiveness is the foundation of a truly compassionate, civilized society.”

—Dr. Sue Johnson, Architect of Emotionally-Focused Therapy

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We strive to cultivate a culture of safety, inclusiveness and diversity in all of our endeavors. EFT Massachusetts encourages anti-racist and LGBTQ+ affirming education where mental health professionals of any race, gender, culture or sexual orientation can thrive. We also offer EFT foundational training scholarships for clinicians who come from underrepresented, underserved and marginalized populations. We are committed to ongoing conversation and collaboration with other EFT communities worldwide. We welcome feedback, and believe there is always more to learn.  As part of this work, we acknowledge that we are residing on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Massachusett people, whose name was appropriated by this Commonwealth. We pay respect to the Massachusett elders past, present and future, the traditional custodians of the lands in which we dwell and make the work of EFT therapy.
